Foreword

This monograph bears the double title `Tabulating Equipment and Army Medical Statistics.` This may appear incongruous but the two subjects are closely interwoven, and, over the last half century, each has influenced the other. This volume will be of value to the medical profession, especially to its members who are interested in biostatistics and in research. It will also be of value to the rapidly growing group concerned with data-processing equipment. From the standpoint of the historian, this monograph fills a gap containing much material not recorded previously.

The principal and senior author of this monograph is Brig. Gen. Albert G. Love, USA (Ret.) who has been intimately associated with U.S. Army Medical Statistics for almost 50 years and whose breadth of experience gives a perspective which is unmatched. This splendid contribution only adds to the debt of the Army Medical Service to him.
