"Objective: Schmidt" is Charles B. MacDonald`s study of the operations of the 28th Infantry Division against the German towns of Vossenack, Kommerscheidt, and Schmidt from 2 through 10 November 1944. Since the first appearance of Three Battles in 1952, MacDonald`s coverage of this battle has become a classic of American military history. Relying heavily on combat interviews conducted with many of the participants, MacDonald tells the story of both American and German plans and operations in graphic detail. The medical story is interwoven throughout MacDonald`s narrative and the key reports that he cites on the activities of the 112th Infantry Regiment`s medical detachment are linked for direct reference by the reader.
