This video concerns humanitarian dental services provided in 1970-1971 to people in villages Lop Buri Province, Thailand by U.S. Army Dental Corps officer, Robert Reed . [Then Captain] Reed provides an interesting personal narration of his service as part of 46th Special Forces Company (Airborne) to SF A Teams operating in Thailand and to Thai civilians. From a photo montage in the video the information appears to have also been reported Supthai Sentinel, 22 January 1971 issue, a periodical of U.S. Army Thailand Army Support. Of interest is his description of collaborative programs with host nation military, field equipment, transportation, site facilities, cultural issues, and field procedures. A very positive feature of Captain Reed’s program was recognition of the public health value of significant oral health education element in addition to the treatment (primarily extraction) of individual patients.
