Education:

Graduated form Baker General Hospital School of Nursing, Lamberton, North Carolina in 1936

Received a B.S., University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1953

Career:

Colonel Clark received her ANC commission in March 1938. Her overseas assignments included service in Hawaii, Korea, and Japan. In 1956, she wrote The Prayer of an Army Nurse, which hallmarks the patient-focused service of Army nursing. She presided over the Corps during the massive build-up for the Vietnam War and instituted a number of policies to increase recruitment. Under her tenure as Chief, male nurses received commissions in the Regular Army and was influential in securing general officer rank for the Chief of the Corps. After completing her term as Chief of the Corps, she served as special Assistant to the Director, Personnel and Training for Nursing Activities, Office of the Surgeon General, from 1 September 1967 until her retirement on 11 October 1967. She received the Distinguished Service Medal and the Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster among her awards and honors.
