Education

Attended Mills Seminary, later Mills College, in California from 1889 to 1892

Graduated Massachusetts General Hospital School, Boston, in 1892

Career

In 1898, she became a contract nurse for the Army shortly after the Spanish-American War. She served in San Francisco, California and at Fort Baynard, New Mexico. She was selected to be the first superintendent of the Army Nurse Corps after its establishment in 1901.
