BG Simmons received her BSN from Incarnate Word College and MSN from the University of Texas. She is a graduate of the Command and Staff College and the US Army War College

Her varied assignments include Head Nurse at the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Korea and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Instructor and Director in the US Army Practical Nurse Course, and ANC Counselor at the US Army Recruiting Command. Other positions include Instructor and Deputy Chief, Nursing Science Division, Academy of Health Sciences; Assistant IG, Health Services Command; Chief Nurse, Bayne-Jones Community Hospital, Fort Polk; and Consultant to The Surgeon General in Nursing Administration. Most recently, she served as Chief Nurse, US Army Medical Command.

Among her numerous awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit, MeritoriousService Medal with Oakleaf Clusters, AMEDD "A" Proficiency Designator,and membership in the Order of Military Medical Merit.
