Command Sergeant Majors of Health Services Command (HSC)/MEDCOM

CSM Adams served from December 1989 to October 1992 as the eighth Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Health Services Command. He was reassigned to the Office of The Surgeon General as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Surgeon General and second in this position from October 1992 to June 1995.

Command Sergeant Major Robert L. Adams

Command Sergeant Major Robert L. Adams completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. During his twenty-eight years of military service, his assignments have included tours of duty in Okinawa, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Germany, and two tours in Vietnam. His CONUS assignments include Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Fort Bliss, Texas.

Command Sergeant Major Adams has served in numerous leadership positions including instructor, section sergeant, platoon sergeant, platoon leader, and first sergeant.   Command Sergeant Major Adams has attended the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Army Medical Department Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Third Army Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Psychological Operations Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, and the Army Medical Department Senior Noncommissioned Officer Course.  Command Sergeant Major Adams served as the eighth Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Health Services Command.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, the eighth award of the Good Conduct Medal, national Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Oversea Service Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He has also been awarded the Combat Medical Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, the Aircraft Crewman Badge, the Order of Military Medical Merit Medallion, and the German Marksmanship Award.
