Command Sergeant Majors of Health Services Command (HSC)/MEDCOM

CSM Clayton served from November 1992 to May 1995 as the ninth Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Health Services Command. The U.S. Army Health Services Command was redesignated as the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) in November 1994. CSM Clayton served as the first Command Sergeant Major of this new command.

Command Sergeant Major Clayton completed Basic Individual Training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. During his years of military service, his assignments have included one tour in Germany, two tours in Vietnam and five tours in Korea. His CONUS assignments include duty with the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; 4th Terminal Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia; William Beaumont Anny Medical Center, El Paso, Texas; Oakland Army Base, Oakland California; Academy of Heath Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; 5th Medical Battalion, Fort Polk, Louisiana; Walter Reed Anny Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He has served in virtually all of the Noncommissioned Officer Leadership positions through the Medical Command level.

Highlights of his assignments are: Command Sergeant Major, 5th Medical Battalion; Command Sergeant Major, 52nd Medical Command Battalion; Command Sergeant Major, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington D.C. He assumed his present duties as Command Sergeant Major of Health Services Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas on November 1992.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with OLC, Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Meritorious Unit Citation. He is a recipient of the Order of Military Medical Merit.
