For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty the Medal of Honor was awarded to PAUL F. STRAUB
Surgeon, 36th Infantry, US Volunteers, at Alos, Zambalos, Luzon, Philippine Islands, 21 December 1899. Voluntarily exposed himself to a hot fire from the enemy in repelling with pistol fire an insurgent attack and at great risk of his own life went under fire to the rescue of a wounded officer and carried him to a place of safety.
