KOREAN CONFLICT
The ANC was directing efforts towards building the ANC relationship between the Active and Reserve Component when North Korea invaded the Republic of Korea, 25 Jun 50.
Five days after the first American combat troops landed, 57 Army nurses arrived in Pusan. Between this time and the end of the peace talks in Jul 53, 540 Army nurses served on the Korean Peninsula. Many more served in facilities in Japan, the next step in the evacuation chain for casualties from the combat zone.
Mobility and the increasing acuity of patient care characterized service in Korea. Evacuation by helicopter brought more seriously wounded soldiers to definitive treatment than ever
before. MASH's followed the front. An epidemic of hemorrhagic fever, an unknown entity to American doctors, prompted the first field use of hemodialysis. The increasingly sophisticated intensive care available so close to the front and air evacuation combined to save lives.
