44th Medical Brigade

The 44th Medical Brigade also served as an area command, when on 1 March 1970 it was consolidated with the U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam (USARV) surgeon’s office forming U.S. Army Medical Command Vietnam (USAMEDCOMV) (Provisional). Later the command was reorganized and redesignated the U.S. Army Health Services Group, Vietnam on 30 April 1972.

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI):  

Symbolism: Maroon and white are the colors used for the Army Medical Service. The gold star superimposed over the maroon star is symbolic of the unit’s mission of command and control over medical units. The four points of each taken together allude to the organization’s numerical designation.
Background: This insignia was originally approved for the 44th Medical Brigade on 5 Oct 1966. The shoulder sleeve insignia was redesignated for the 44th Medical Command on 6 August 2001.

Inactivated 19 March 1973 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland

Activated 21 September 1974 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Redesignated 21 June 1976 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 44th Medical Brigade.

Reorganized and Redesignated 16 October 2001, as the 44th Medical Command

Redesignated as 44th Medical Brigade, on 21 April 2010
