Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI):
Symbolism: Maroon and white are the colors of the Army Medical Department, split diagonally in reference to the unit’s transition from a Medical Group to a Medical Brigade. A gold border is emblematic of excellence and valor. The red cross is a symbol of aid and comfort. The fleur-de-lis further alludes to the unit’s heritage of descent from a collecting company and service during World War II.
Background: The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 16 Oct 2001.
Lineage and Honors:
Constituted Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 62nd Medical Brigade on 19 December 1942 as the 62nd Medical Battalion (Corps).
Activated on 25 January 1943 as the 62nd Medical Battalion, Motorized, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Reorganized and redesignated 15 September 1943, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 62nd Medical Battalion.
Inactivated on 13 November 1945.
Reactivated 1 October 1956 in Germany.
Reorganized and redesignated 8 October 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 62nd Medical Group in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.
Transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington, June 1968.
Redesignated 16 October 2001, as the 62nd Medical Brigade, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company.
